Tri Park festival and local artists!

This weekend, I had a table at the first annual Tri Park festival in Lake Montebello! In addition to helping these talented young women make jewelry, I met and re-met other local jewelers, who gave me some great ideas and feedback about creating a jewelry cooperative.

Gloria is one of the artists- she makes jewelry out of recycled materials and paintings out of old makeup. You can visit her website here , and can find some of her products at the American Visionary Art Museum in Federal Hill.

Another artist I met is Jimi, who you can find every Sunday at the downtown farmers market here in Baltimore. He makes great jewelry using silver spoons and forks, among other things. Look for him next Sunday at the market!

I am looking for jewelers who might be interested in being a part of a jewelry cooperative studio and skill share venue- so send me a message if that is something that you are interested in!

Sowebo and Greenmount West

The Jewelry Project hosted jewelry making tables on both Saturday and Sunday this weekend. I met so many amazing people at both the Greenmount West garden and the Sowebo arts festival, and am excited to organize everyone to start the "new" Jewelry Project. More info soon to come. I hope to organize a meeting with all interested mentors, advisory board members, and volunteers in the beginning of July. Some resources, and a new direction!

The Jewelry Project is taking a new direction!

Over the next few months, the Jewelry Project will transition from being a workshop based in the House Of Ruth's shelter to becoming a community based, entrepreneurial training program. Participants from transitional housing programs will sign on for six months of weekly or bi-monthly workshops in designing a compelling line of jewelry, creating that line using a variety of techniques, and marketing their artwork online.

We are actively recruiting e-marketing experts, web designers, graphic designers, jewelers, and small business owners to lead workshops and mentor participants. This summer will mark the beginning of this new direction, as I research artists and designers who have helpful resources for independent/freelance artists and designers . I will document these resources here, so that people can follow our our curriculum as it builds, and give feedback about other resources that we might find helpful.

Two chances to make your own jewelry with the Jewelry Project!

May 22nd @ Boundary Block Party, and May 30 @ SOWEBOFEST.

May 22 1-4pm

The third annual Boundary Block Party will be on Saturday May 22 from 1 to 4pm at Eutaw and McMechen Streets. The block party is a celebration of community with live music, free food, public art projects, walking tours, kids activities, information about community organizations and a park clean up project. The goal of the festival is to provide residents a place to build relationships and community.

Today was a perfect kickoff to craft season! The Jewelry Project had a design-your-own necklace table at the block party/fundraiser for the Baltimore Child Abuse center.

Look for another jewelry making station at the Jubilee Arts festival! Info is included on the image above. Make something to donate to the project, or buy your jewelry for only $5. This festival will include lots of awesome community based artists.
